Nothing affects on civil engineering student's career except practical knowledge/experience in the construction.
Backlogs might affect in some cases, where company have special criteria for no-backlogs in degree.
But most of the companies never look for your backlogs or grade acquired in degree education, they ask you some practical questions and expect most practical answer from you. If you have enough practical knowledge no one is going to be in your way not even your backlogs.

But that doesn't mean you can just skip theory knowledge and go to site. Theory knowledge is as much important as practical knowledge.
For example ,You should know that what is the mix ratio of M20 grade(practical knowledge), but you also should/must know that why it is taken as 1:1.5:3 & what is mean by concrete mix design(Theory knowledge).
